ACT Bootcamps

“I was stressing about sitting in an ACT prep session for SIX HOURS…. But it flew by!”

“I almost didn’t come today, but I am so glad I did. I got so much out of that!”

“My teachers have all been giving me tips and practice in class, but it really helped me to sit in a separate room and look at each of the tests together.”

What better words are there to share about the ACT Bootcamp this year than from the students themselves? On March 26 & 27, EVERY JUNIOR at Oxford High School had the opportunity to step away from their normal academic day in order to attend a 6 hour bootcamp to prepare for the upcoming ACT test. This opportunity was funded by Oxford City Schools, meaning that every student attending received a high-energy, high-impact prep session worth hundreds of dollars, FREE OF CHARGE! We were worried that six hours was a long time to ask kids to focus on ACT exam preparation. It was….. And it wasn’t! We watched as students gained confidence using skills and strategies they have been learning throughout the year in class with their teachers. We watched body language change as individuals realized they KNEW HOW to take this test AND HOW TO SUCCEED. Have they been exposed to these skills and strategies all year? YES! Did creating a whole day regarding ACT review convey to each student just how much we care about the opportunities available to them? ABSOLUTELY! Did students walk away with confidence in their own knowledge and skills to be productive citizens? GO ASK THEM- THEY’LL TELL YOU!

BEST is the Standard…

At Oxford High School we…

We support our students in their learning JOurneY to become Leaders Of Their Own Learning with learning targets, checks for understanding, using data with students, models/critique/descriptive feedback, student-led conferences, celebrations of learning, digital portfolios, and standard referenced grading. We encourage and support the use of Quality Questioning to partner with students to enhance classroom dialogue, formative feedback, and student learning. Our work with Foundations and DSC supports our students when it comes to meeting behavioral expectations by providing our students with clear expectations for success and the resources and support to meet those expectations.

  1. This week’s newsletter helps me as a parent. I was asked yesterday by a parent of a junior who is an EL student, how do I know that Oxford is a good school? She has customers that advises her to move her student to a private school setting. This is how we know. Thank you!
